MIKE BUNDY, 64
Robert Michael “Mike” Bundy, age 64 of Coeur d(TM)Alene passed away peacefully at home July 7, 2005 from prostate cancer. He was born May 14, 1941 in Port Angeles, Washington to Robert E. and Margaret (Fisher) Bundy. After a childhood spent in Palo Alto, CA he graduated in 1958 from Lewiston High School. He earned his Bachelors of Science degree in 1962 from the University of Washington. While earning his Masters of Arts degree in Education in 1967 from Whitworth College, Mike taught and coached at North Central High School in Spokane from 1965-1968. He continued teaching at Pullman High School from 1968-1971.
In 1971 he moved to Coeur d(TM)Alene, Idaho, joined the faculty of North Idaho College, and for the next 31 years taught English and History touching thousands of students(TM) lives. He twice served as NIC(TM)s Faculty Assembly Chair and sat on numerous other faculty committees. Mike also established the NIC cross country and track programs and coached both sports from 1971-2002. During his coaching tenure, he worked with hundreds of student athletes including numerous All-Americans. In 1987 he coached the NIC Women(TM)s team to the National X-C Championship where he was also awarded National Coach of the Year.
Following retirement from NIC, Mike was appointed to the Coeur d(TM)Alene Parks and Recreation Commission for which he had great passion and commitment. He was also able to travel to some of his favorite areas including Mexico and Denman Island, British Columbia and twice attended the New Orleans Jazz Festival. His hobbies and interest were reading, playing cribbage, watching soccer, political thinking and debate, volunteer coaching, officiating at track meets, classic cars (especially Plymouths), a wide variety of music, exercise, and traveling.
He leaves behind his wonderful wife, Bridget Hill at home; his daughter, Erin Margaret Bundy and her husband, Rick Lucke of Coeur d(TM)Alene; his son, Robin Michael Bundy of Coeur d(TM)Alene; other close family members including Bridget(TM)s parents, siblings and spouses, and Pete and Judy Bundy Townsend; cousins, Tobey and Mikell Callahan of Denman Island, B.C. and many dear friends and his energetic golden retriever, Annie.
Mike was a loving husband, father and friend, and he will be greatly missed by all.
A memorial service will be 11:00 A.M. Wednesday, July 13, 2005 in the Boswell Hall Schuler Auditorium at North Idaho College. Yates Funeral Home, Coeur d(TM)Alene Chapel is in charge of the arrangements. The family prefers memorials to the Denman Island Conservancy, P.O.
