Cathy’s greatest hope was accomplished last Monday when she went to be with her Lord. We who remain, have mixed emotions, but God has blessed our family with both tears and laughter in the same breath. I have never seen so many tears and heard so much laughter fill our home this past week. God has been merciful even in this, His glorious presence was felt when she went to be with the Lord and still very present today...all prayers were faithfully answered as
Cathy left in Peace and Joy.

On behalf of our family and myself, we can’t thank our family and friends, brothers and sisters in faith enough for your persistent love and prayers, please continue. These last years of illness have been very difficult, but perhaps the most fruitful spiritual years of Cathy’s life. She blessed many and this will continue we are sure of. My most favorite thing she said was, “I’m not terminal, I’m Eternal.” Amen, sister!

The following is an excerpt from our oldest daughter Stephanie’s Facebook post:
“It is with a very heavy heart we announce the passing of our beloved Cathy (my beautiful mother). She went to be with the Lord yesterday morning with all of her family by her side; she was in no pain and passed peacefully through the grace of God. She was the best wife, mother, sister, daughter and friend anyone could ask for and will be dearly missed by all who knew her. She touched so many lives and was loved by so many for her gentle and kind heart, tenacious spirit, and her overwhelming love for God. She always found ways to make someone’s day a little brighter and I am so grateful that God blessed us with her! She was so excited to go to heaven and we take great comfort knowing we will see her again soon! She fought an amazing fight admired by many!”

Cathy was born in Ypsilanti, Michigan on March 31, 1953. She was sixty-four years old and we share four children and six grandchildren. Our youngest daughter, Hayley Shortridge-Gabriel, her husband Aaron and their two children Charlotte and Isabelle are living in Coeur d’Alene. Stephanie Shortridge-Boettcher, her husband Travis, and their children Ella and Braden currently live in Temecula, CA. Scott Shortridge and his wife Shani and their children Devon and Cade live in Livermore, CA., and Sean Loftis lives in Newport Beach, CA. Cathy’s parents are still alive and living in Southern CA., she has a surviving sister and brother-in-law Ed and Donna White (and family), and brother and sister in law Michael and Burma Workman. Her mother-in-law, Helen Shortridge, lives here in Coeur d’Alene as well.

I (Stephen) met Cathy in Newport Beach, marrying in 1976, we have been married 41 wonderful years. In 1977, we moved to Manhattan and she became an assistant Chef to a Le Cordon Bleu Chef in a Wall Street private kitchen. On returning to CA, and after our youngest was four, she opened a gift store called the Hidden Cottage. It was a successful “hobby” and grew into six locations and two Thomas Kinkade Galleries. Our last gallery was the Painter’s Chair Fine Art Gallery located in downtown Coeur d’Alene. Cathy managed them all...she was the boss and good at what she did. She loved sports, primarily golf and tennis. Skiing only on the most beautiful of days. She loved learning about health and how God created our bodies to live, even in her illness she was the healthiest sick person I ever knew...I miss her.

Oswald Chambers said:
“When you are joyful, be joyful; when you are sad, be sad. If God has given you a sweet cup, don’t make it bitter; and if He gives you a bitter cup, don’t try to make it sweet; take things as they come.”
[The Shade of His Hand]

I think that best describes life at The Shortridge’s for now… and probably for a long time.
Thank you for your love, ALL praise and thanksgiving to our good God. God bless us all and much love from the Shortridge Family.
My best, Stephen Shortridge

There will be a public memorial in November (to be announced). It will tentatively be the week before Thanksgiving. We will let everyone know.

In lieu of flowers, we request donations be made to Hospice of North Idaho, who may actually be a flock of beautiful angels running about town wearing stethoscopes and name tags, what a blessing they were to us! God bless them...
