Terri passed away on August 3, 2017. She was born on June 24, 1955 in Spokane to Eugene and Jo Anne Burkwist. She was raised in Spokane and spent most summers at Bottle Bay, Pend Oreille Lake. She was the youngest of six children.
She attended Marycliff Catholic schools until transferring later and graduating from Ferris High School in 1973. Right out of High School she attended Spokane Community College to become a Medical Records Tech and once graduated she went to work for the Medical Service Corp. Her dream was to work with children and she wanted to teach. She went on to Eastern Washington University to earn her degree in Education. She taught at Lakeland Junior High in Rathdrum for eight years before advancing her career to Sandpoint to work in the IT department at the Lake Pend Oreille School District until retiring in 2005.
She met her true love, Dan Hanenburg, on her 21st birthday 1976 and they were married about one year later. They built their life together and their home at Cape Horn Estates on the lake that she loved. They stayed in love for over 40 years until God gave her wings. They were blessed with one beautiful daughter, Melissa in 1979. Terri courageously battled cancer a couple of times and never gave up. She just really didn’t want to miss being part of her family, raising her daughter and getting to know her grandchildren.
Terri was preceded in death by her mother and father and brothers, Tom and Phil. She is survived by her husband, Dan; daughter, Melissa; son in-law, Andy; brother, Steve; sisters, Barbara and Beverly; grandchildren, Ashley and Garrett; and also niece, Dana and nephews, Steve, Josh, and Jason.
The family would like to thank her team of doctors that tried so hard to keep her going for so many years. They enabled her to fulfill her many dreams.
